Journey has been under God's direction from its inception in 2003. We have seen God take us from simple plans to those of great vision and success. In October of 2003, two young men, Martin L. Lister and Baron Savory - also cousins - were impressed to start an ensemble that would sing the good old spirituals of composers like Moses Hogan, Nathan Carter, and many others.

They came into contact with two young ladies, Jewel Scott and Marguerite Brennen (music majors), who shared their zeal for this kind of music. Quickly, they gathered a few musicians, and on October 26, 2003 in the chapel of the Women's dorm on the campus of Andrews University, the group had their first meeting.

At first, their only concern was to share their joy of singing through spirituals. However, as time passed, the Holy Spirit planted seeds in the hearts of each member. Through inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the co-directors Jewel Scott and Marguerite Brennen began to make plans to extend the ensemble’s vision into a ministry that would extend far and wide. Plans were initiated to make this goal an attainable reality, thus one of their first orders of business was to give the group a name. After much reflection, it was decided that Journey would be the most appropriate title. It echoed our mission and purpose in a very clear and effective way.

Journey grew from a membership of about 16-20 members to its current size of 26 members. Since its birth, some members have moved on to further their careers in other places, and many new faces have become dear to us. One such member who has started her career in another location is the former director, Jewel Scott. She has graced us with her vision, experience, organizational skills, and passion for ministry and music. As a result of the vacancy, God motivated us to appoint Leslie Samuel. Without hesitation, he accepted the call to become a committed minister of music. Together, he and Marguerite Brennen continue to tread the path God has set before them as disciples of Christ, commissioned to penetrate the hearts of all those God has come to save.

In 2004, we have had the opportunity to minister in various venues such as church services, concerts, banquets, celebrations, and much more. Furthermore, Journey's repertoire has expanded to include cultural, jazz, contemporary, and classical compositions. This group is filled with talent generating creative avenues to minister to the world. God has blessed Journey with individuals who are poets, dramatist, preachers, instrumentalist, storytellers, writers, administrators, coordinators, and so much more. Many of the members are composers, thus, we have performed a couple of these originals with many more on the horizon. We also plan to minister to our brothers and sisters in prison, in elderly homes, orphanages, and any other place God sends us.

In 2006, Marguerite and Leslie were joined in Holy matrimony and left to teach at Great Lakes Adventist Academy.  At that time they passed the Baton on to Wilfred Adderly and Rochelle White, who continued to take Journey to higher heights in musical ability. Journey is currently under the direction of Rochelle White - A student in the Master's of Conducting program at Andrews University.

We have seen God orchestrating every single aspect of this group. No solitary decision is pondered or made without seeking first divine council, for we understand and know that we exist only because of His mercy and love and to be His instruments. Our existence is solely to honor Him and hasten His return. Otherwise, our efforts are in vain. As a result, God has richly blessed this ministry in many ways, and we are amazed by His constant love. We know that God has plans that transcend our wildest imagination. Journey continues to expect the unexpected! Pray that God's will be done in our lives, and in this ensemble.
